Borneo is an island shared by Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Kalimantan. The third oldest tropical rainforests in the world are found in Borneo. These woods are home to hundreds of unique animals, making them among the most ecologically diverse habitats globally. 

Borneo is the Home to: 

  • 230 species of mammals

  • 420 resident birds

  • 100 amphibians

  • 394 fish

  • 15,000 plants

Endangered species: 

An endangered species is a type of organism that is threatened by extinction.

In Borneo, about 12 species are endangering. Three critically endangered and nine endangered species are on the IUCN Red List. Additionally, 27 species are listed as vulnerable. We will talk about some of these precious animals later on!

Because of human activities, mainly deforestation and illegal trading, which leads to many other issues threatening the animals' lives, having the risk of extinction.

To answer your question: unfortunately, yes, climate change indirectly threatens the primates by disrupting their habitat from rising temperatures, extreme weather events and rising water levels in the coastal region. These factors have taken away large amounts of food and nesting sites from them, further endangering them.
